What to Expect from Your Tummy Tuck Surgery Costs

If you're considering abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) surgery in Australia, understanding the likely costs, rebates, and inclusions is an important part of your planning. Whether you are exploring surgery after weight loss, pregnancy, or for functional reasons, this guide outlines the typical fees involved and what they cover.

At Dr Duncan Taylor’s Perth clinic, we offer clear, individualised advice, and have prepared the following pricing guide to help you better understand the cost of abdominoplasty surgery.

What Is Included in Abdominoplasty Costs?

The listed fees below refer to the surgeon’s fee only. Additional costs such as anaesthetist fees, hospital fees, and post-operative garments should also be considered.

Is Abdominoplasty Covered by Medicare or Private Health?

Some patients may be eligible for a Medicare rebate and private health insurance support if the abdominoplasty is performed for medical (not cosmetic) reasons.

You may qualify for a Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item number if:

  • You have experienced significant weight loss, resulting in excess skin that causes hygiene, mobility, or skin health issues, or

  • You have rectus diastasis (abdominal muscle separation) following pregnancy, with associated functional symptoms

Rebate eligibility will be assessed during your consultation with Dr Taylor. This may involve a physical examination and a pre-operative ultrasound to support the clinical diagnosis. If you are eligible, your private health insurance may cover part or all of the hospital fee, depending on your level of cover.

Please note: If liposuction is included as part of the surgery, this component is considered cosmetic and will not be eligible for a rebate.

1. Standard Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Surgeon’s Fee: From $10,000

+ Liposuction (if required): From $2,000

This procedure removes excess skin and repairs muscle separation (rectus diastasis), often after pregnancy or moderate weight loss.

Additional Costs

  • Anaesthetist Fee: Out-of-pocket costs will apply

  • Hospital Fee:

    • Covered if appropriate level of health insurance and surgery is deemed medically necessary

    • If uninsured, hospital fees apply

  • Liposuction Fee (if required): Additional hospital costs of $2,000–$3,000 apply (as this portion is considered cosmetic)

Post-Surgical Garment

Patients will need a high-waisted abdominal compression garment following surgery.

2. Fleur-de-Lis Abdominoplasty

Surgeon’s Fee: From $12,000

+ Liposuction (if required): From $2,000

Fleur-de-Lis abdominoplasty is typically recommended for patients with both vertical and horizontal excess skin, often after major weight loss.

Additional Costs

  • Anaesthetist Fee: From $5,000

  • Hospital Fee:

    • Fully or partially covered if insured and surgery is deemed medically necessary

    • If uninsured, hospital fees apply

  • Liposuction Fee (if required): Hospital fee of $2,000–$3,000 applies

Post-Surgical Garment

A supportive abdominal compression garment is required after the procedure.

3. Circumferential Abdominoplasty (Belt Lipectomy)

Surgeon’s Fee: From $16,000

+ Liposuction (if required): From $2,000

This comprehensive procedure targets loose skin and tissue around the entire midsection and lower back. It is often performed after massive weight loss.

Additional Costs

  • Anaesthetist Fee: From $5,000 – you may be eligible for a health insurance and/ or Medicare rebate

  • Hospital Fee:

    • Covered if appropriate level of health insurance and surgery is deemed medically necessary

    • If uninsured, hospital fees apply
