The listed fees below refer to the surgeon’s fee only. Additional costs such as anaesthetist fees, hospital fees, and post-operative garments should also be considered.
Is Abdominoplasty Covered by Medicare or Private Health?
Some patients may be eligible for a Medicare rebate and private health insurance support if the abdominoplasty is performed for medical (not cosmetic) reasons.
You may qualify for a Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item number if:
You have experienced significant weight loss, resulting in excess skin that causes hygiene, mobility, or skin health issues, or
You have rectus diastasis (abdominal muscle separation) following pregnancy, with associated functional symptoms
Rebate eligibility will be assessed during your consultation with Dr Taylor. This may involve a physical examination and a pre-operative ultrasound to support the clinical diagnosis. If you are eligible, your private health insurance may cover part or all of the hospital fee, depending on your level of cover.
Please note: If liposuction is included as part of the surgery, this component is considered cosmetic and will not be eligible for a rebate.
