Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery designed to enhance breast size and shape through the use of implants or fat transfer.
This breast enhancement surgery can be performed using either Breast Implants, Fat Grafting or a combination of both of these enhancement methods.
What is Breast Implant Surgery?
Implants are inserted behind your breast tissue. When you visit Dr Taylors rooms in Perth for your consultation, you will try sample implants to determine what size, shape and projection implant will best suit your body type and outcome prior to surgery.
In some cases, fat grafting can be combined with implants to add a layer of your own tissue in front of the implant. This approach may help create a softer contour and a more natural-looking result for some patients.
What Can I Expect with Breast Implants?
A Quick Overview
Surgery time: 1 - 1.5 hours.
Length of stay in hospital: 1 night.
Recovery time: The following are approximate times.
Driving 1 week
Office work 1-2 weeks
Strenuous work / exercise 4-6 weeks.
Garments: Post-surgery compression bra should be worn 24/7 for 4-6 weeks.
Incision and scar: Approximately 5 cm long scar in the fold under your breast.
Other Things to Consider
• Implants may need replacing if they rupture or a capsule forms around the implant, causing aesthetic issues and/ or pain.
• If you have implants inserted during the earlier years of your life, your breasts will still change with age i.e. ptosis (drooping) of tissue. Therefore, it is possible that you may require revision surgery in your later years.
• Textured implants have been associated with a risk of developing BIA-ALCL (Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma). This risk varies with implant choice. Dr Taylor uses smooth or micro-textured breast implants. According to the TGA, smooth implants have not been associated with any confirmed cases of BIA-ALCL.
• Many women successfully breastfeed after having implants inserted as they sit behind the milk-producing glands in the breast. However, it is possible that your ability to breastfeed may be altered.
• Breast Implant Illness (BII) has been documented to be associated with this type of breast augmentation.

What is Fat Grafting?
A commonly chosen procedure, this surgery, also known as fat injections, uses your own fat to adjust breast size and shape. This is an all-natural surgical solution for breast augmentation, and when done by an experienced surgeon, the final results are permanent.
For this procedure, Dr Taylor removes fat using liposuction cannulas from the abdomen, inner thighs, outer thighs and/or buttocks. The fat is then processed to remove the fluid, leaving quality fat that is then injected into the breast. This procedure will add overall volume to the breast and create upper pole fullness (cleavage).
What Can I Expect with Fat Grafting?
A Quick Overview
Surgery time: 2 hours.
Length of stay in hospital: 0 -1 night.
Recovery time: The following are approximate times.
Driving 24 hours
Office work 3-5 days
Strenuous work / exercise 3-4 weeks.
Garments: Post-surgery compression bra should be worn 24/7 for 4-6 weeks and compression high-waisted shorts for 3-4 weeks.
Incision and scar: Small, less than 1 cm incisions in the donor site and breasts
Other Things to Consider
• Natural-looking results, with a natural filler.
• Some of the fat transferred is reabsorbed into the body - this reabsorption rate is documented as 20%.
• Faster recovery time in comparison to implant-based enhancement.
• Avoids the complications related to breast implants, such as implant rupture, capsular contracture and BIA-ALCL.
• For larger volumes you may require multiple surgeries.
• Although not described as too painful, fat grafting causes significant bruising.
