Your Guide to Surgical Options, Consultations and Indicative Costs
Gynaecomastia refers to the enlargement of male breast tissue. Where appropriate, surgery may be an option to consider following a thorough consultation and clinical assessment.
This page provides general information about the surgical options available through Dr Duncan Taylor's practice, what to expect from the consultation process, and the indicative costs involved. It is not a substitute for personalised medical advice.
Gynaecomastia surgical options
The appropriate surgical approach will depend on the amount and type of breast tissue present, and is determined following a clinical examination. Dr Taylor will discuss which option may be suitable for your individual circumstances.
There are three main approaches:
Liposuction involves making a small incision and using a cannula to remove fatty tissue and shape the chest contour.
Excision is an incision made around the areola to allow surgical removal of glandular breast tissue.
A combination of both liposuction and excision is used where both fatty and glandular tissue require treatment.
What to Expect From Your Consultations
Dr Taylor offers a two-consultation process for Gynaecomastia surgery in Perth. The purpose of these appointments is to ensure you have access to clear, balanced information and sufficient time to consider your options before making any decision.
Consultation One: Planning Your Journey
Fee: $300 (A Medicare rebate of $86 may be available with a valid GP referral)
Review of medical history and discussion of your concerns
Explanation of surgical options that may be appropriate
Indicative cost information and Medicare rebate eligibility
Surgery scheduling, should you wish to proceed
Consultation Two: Preparing for Surgery
Fee: Included if proceeding with surgery
Confirmation of procedure details and remaining questions addressed
Completion of the informed consent form
Pre and post-operative care instructions provided
Garment recommendations and hospital admission information
If you have not had prior imaging of the breast tissue, Dr Taylor may provide a referral for imaging during your first consultation. This helps to confirm the presence of gynaecomastia and assess eligibility for Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item numbers.
